On the hunt
Like most photographers, I am always looking out for affordable vinyl backdrops that can last a long time and I took a chance on these remake /makeover sheets from Daiso. I promptly bought a couple of designs that I have not seen elsewhere and fashioned them into something that I have been using for months. They show no signs of replacement despite heavy usage so I am confident in sharing this amazing resource with you. They are unlike my vinyl backdrops that I buy from Ezbuy, Taobao, Shopee or Lazada that are just a dollar or two cheaper but get creases and scratched up over time. This is despite them being pasted on the boards as well so they are no match in terms of quality with the remake/makeover sheets from Daiso. The only design that I had to scrap and throw away from Daiso was a super reflective white and grey marble. I just could not remove the creases nor its air bubbles after adhering it to the board. It showed up in my images and was a pain to remove in Photoshop! Scroll down to view the marble design that you should avoid like the plague! The other designs that I bought were matte and some of them had some slight texture to it as well. I am sharing the pros and the cons of these remake sheets, the materials you need and steps to take to make these amazing vinyl backdrops

Materials
- 2 Remake Sheet/ Makeover Sheet from Daiso
- 1 large or 2 small Plastic Boards
- 1 Double Sided Tape
- Penknife
- Marker/Pencil
Steps
- Unfold the remake sheet/makeover sheet and straighten it out by putting books/weights on it to prevent the ends from curling up. After a few hours, turn the remake sheet over and put books/weights on it and leave it overnight.
- Gather all the materials and if using 2 small boards, stick double sided tape one one end of the board and stick 2 boards together.
- Put the 2 sheets together and align them such that the design would flow smoothly.
- Slowly remove the liner of 1 sheet a bit at a time. Do not remove the entire liner all at once as it would be hard to remove the air bubbles as well as straighten the creases as you adhere the sheet to the board.
- Hold the 2 ends of the sheet with a bit of the liner removed, align it and stick it to the end of the board.
- As you remove more of the liner, use your hands / ruler to smooth the sheet and remove the air bubbles. If you find any trapped air bubbles, remove the sheet and stick it again but by bit while smoothing the sheet to the board.
- Once 1 sheet is adhered to the board, take out the 2nd sheet and check that the design is aligned before repeating steps 3 to 5 for the 2nd sheet.
- Mark out a 4 cm border at the top of the boards and use a marker/pencil to draw the outline. This additional border on top of the sheet is for you to clamp it to the backdrop stand without leaving marks on the sheets. It is is optional but so useful in my opinion.
- Use a penknife to cut out the outline and your new vinyl backdrop is ready! Make it a double sided backdrop with 2 different remake sheet designs!
- Keep the leftover plastic boards as you can always join them together with double sided tape to make a larger board for a new backdrop.
